Coinbase | CB1 Card

Product Launch

Coinbase | CB1 Card

Coinbase unveiled their first Bitcoin-backed credit card at their annual summit. For a company rooted in the virtual world, the reveal of Coinbase’s first physical product needed to make a statement.

Made by Metal

Inspired by the concept “Made by Metal”, we designed a teaser film that embodies the sleek sophistication of the CB1 credit card – from the stainless steel build to the embossed genesis block, a subtle nod to the blockchain technology that powers it.

Built from the ground up

A revolutionary product calls for a compelling story. The film unfolds into a material evolution; abstract elements coalesce into form layer by layer. Blending realism with the intangible, we tell a story of technology and craftsmanship converging into a new kind of physical artifact — literally and metaphorically built from the ground up.

Precision in every detail

From the custom 1 EMV chip to Coinbase’s signature blue accents, each detail is revealed with cinematic precision. The interplay of light, weight, and texture creates a film that feels both tactile and elevated, coming together in an elegant reveal of Coinbase’s leap into the material world.

The Big Launch

Continuing our partnership with Coinbase, we reintroduce the CB1 credit card to the general public. This GA launch film moves beyond the inception story, signaling a clear shift to real-world utility and showcasing the CB1 card in a tangible, practical context.

No more speculation. By spotlighting the card’s visual features, the film reinforces a clear vision: crypto is no longer just a future concept—it’s an active, integrated part of how we spend, live, and move through the world.

Process & RnD

Establishing the narrative took time. Our initial approach was to use a mix of beauty shots with abstract shots of the card’s material. As the concept evolved, we shifted for a more linear narrative – expanding on our earlier ideas to depict the card’s conception through visual metaphors. And as the story goes, data becomes matter, concept becomes form, and slowly, the card takes shape.
